Abstract

I wrote “The Emerging American Police State” in an effort to address two important issues of constitutional dimension. It would have been much easier to “get over it,” as Professor Subotnik has advised, and simply pay the $180 tribute that the state was demanding. After all, I’ve spent $180 for which I’ve received no value on many occasions in the past and cannot even remember the times I’ve done it. But I remain convinced, especially after reading Professor Subotnik’s response, that paying tribute and getting over it would have been wrong.
