Abstract
A review of 2 books is presented: 1. We the People: Transformations, by Bruce Ackerman, and 2. The Bill of Rights: Creation and Reconstruction, by Akhil Reed Amar. These are 2 recent explorations of how, and why, the Constitution has changed. Each of these well-written books is a rich contribution to the historical and theoretical literature of the Constitution and deserves a large readership. Although they differ in style and substance, both convey the same main point: the federal Constitution is premised on popular sovereignty by the People and for the People.
