Abstract
The article presents an overview on the evolution and structure of technical relationships between patents in the U.S. patent system. It argues that the legal scholars should engage on network science trend because it provides significant conceptual advances and analytical tools. It illustrates the application of a network approach to empirical data by identifying the result of a network science study of patent acknowledgement.
