Abstract
Our two fallen comrades, W. Haywood Burns and M. Shanara Gilbert, whose lives came to a tragic end on April 2, 1996 in South Africa, dedicated their lives to the same struggle. Like Nelson Mandela, they fought for equality, working passionately, relentlessly and unceasingly. Each in their own way, Dean Burns and Professor Gilbert had a profound impact at home and abroad-on the law, law students, lawyers, and the justice system. In the space of these few pages, all too brief to capture their commitment to justice, I will try to describe some of the rich legacy they have left for this generation and the next.
